Scams that use artificial intelligence
Scammers use artificial intelligence too. Their scams are more convincing than before, but a few reflexes are enough to foil them.
- The fake voice of a loved one: "Grandma, I've had an accident, send me money." A few seconds of recording are enough to imitate a voice.
- The right reflex: hang up and call your relative back yourself on their usual number. Agree on a family code word to ask for if in doubt.
- Fake videos: a celebrity or journalist recommending a "miracle" investment. These videos are fabricated.
- Perfectly written messages: having no spelling mistakes no longer proves a message is honest.
- Fake photos: a fake parcel, a fake sick child for a fundraiser, a fake sweetheart. A photo no longer proves anything.
Good to know: A simple rule: if you're being rushed and money is involved, stop everything and show the message to someone close before acting.
